I’ve been meaning to add Rock’n’Rule to my “weird cartoons watched” list for a while... now that I’m down Wizards and Heavy Metal and a bunch of others its time may be soon.

It’s good, and has a strange history. The version I’m most familiar with, which is the original cut, is lost. (it’s included as a bonus disc, dubbed from a last-known-to exist VHS copy. The studio was offered Heavy Metal, but turned it down as they had their own cartoon rock opera in the pipes. They had to spend the rest of the 80s animating care bears and strawberry shortcake to pay off the debt this film built up. I think is was the first postwar use of glass plate multiplane animation, and has the most Cheap Trick of any post-apocalyptic cartoon about dogs, cats and rats.
